Day hike up McClellan Butte. Hiked on a, mostly clear day. Trail in good shape. About the 3500 foot level, we encountered about 3 avalanche chutes, requiring care to cross. The snow was soft. Recommend poles, In the event of a slip, an ice axe would have been prudent. In some areas between 3500 and 4000 foot, the trail is somewhat hard to follow -fortunately there is pink tape to mark the route – note that coming down we missed a small switchback and had to navigate from about 15 minutes to find the proper route down, so use care on the return trip down to follow the trail. Once you cross the back side of the trail and turn right going west, there are two blow downs. No big issue to cross. Great views of Mount Kent, the Duke and Dutchess of Kent (for future climbs). Once the trail turned back North, there was snow until the saddle near the summit – mostly soft but required some care navigating. The summit block was dry.
