I first hiked the Fantastic Erratic trail around 1990, not too long after Cougar Mountain Park was established and long before its well-established trail system was in place andmarked. I recall finding my way through the park using older maps and few and far-between guidebooks. I vividly recall navigating the western portion of the park and the De Leelo Wall trail when the current New Castle golf course and development was a garbage dump.
Although this is the only trail with any mention of a glacial erratic, many are scattered throughout the park, especially along the Whittaker Peak trail. This was another fast hike to continue to check off trails on my quest to hike the entire trail system in the park.
