Another trip up the Old Mailbox Peak Trail. This time with friend and colleague CD Lucas. The shuttle was not in service, so parking in the normally designed off-limits area was permissible. It was a sunny day and the old trail was shockingly in excellent condition. No mud on the roots. Relatively no snow until the intersection with the new trail. The talus was snow free, and once above that, there was some compact snow. A couple of inches at most. Microspikes proved helpful with traction and I always use poles. The 360 degree views were absolutely perfect. The gate to the upper parking lot was closed and locked upon our return, so please heed the warning of the 4:00PM lock time.
